International Peace Alliance (Space) (IPA) is a non-governmental international organization co-chaired by seven of the most influential international space institutions, namely, the International Academy of Astronautics, International Astronautical Federation, International Institute of Space Law, Association of Space Explorers, International Space University, Space Foundation, Rice University International Space Medicine Summit. The IPA is composed of space scientists, astronauts, and medical professionals from China, US, Russia, Europe, and many other countries. The IPA aims to promote international cooperation and industry development in the peaceful use of space technology, with the Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology (Health) as a platform, bringing together space scientists, experts and scholars, astronauts, enterprise leaders from all over the world, to collectively explore and discuss the peaceful use of space technology, industry development opportunities and challenges and other issues. They will also explore the path of space technology transformation and solutions, to promote the development of the peaceful use of space technology industry around the world.
International Peace Alliance (Space) (IPA) was initiated on January 28-31, 2018, as a result of the Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology, which was held in Wenchang, Hainan. Sponsored by the China Space Foundation, organized by CIIC Group, and guided by the China National Development and Reform Commission, the Symposium not only witnessed the gathering of Chinese, American and Russian astronauts, space scientists, and medical experts, but also occasioned the establishment of IPA as consensus. Additionally, a MOU was reached on the regular convening of symposiums on peaceful use of space technology.
In November 2019, the IPA, as one of the organizers, with the support of the seven international space institutions, jointly organized the second Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology, and in the process reaching a consensus to hold the symposium in China in mid-November every year. In October 2020, the International Peace Alliance (Space) officially became a member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
